AORUS Monitor Repair

Introduction

AORUS monitors (Gigabyte) appear to have a fairly common failure mode after 5+ years where the backlight controller will fail.

These monitors all use the NovaTek NT50508 or NT50172 LED driver chip for which there appears to be no datasheet.

Opening The Monitor

There should be a square notch in the bottom of the monitor, insert a small flat head screwdriver and carefully prize the a crack in the case and insert your plastic pry tool. Work the pry tool around the case to achieve a complete opening. As you open it be careful of the backlight wires taped to the housing.

Main Board

Layout of main board and identifying the NT50508 LED driver, connector and so on.

You might also just buy a spare mainboard replacement from eBay.

LED Driver Replacement

The NT50508 driver can be remove and replaced with spare parts from Ali Express, although the manufacturer has end of lined these chips a few years back.

Backlight Replacement

Should the backlight fail its possible to replace these strips by carefully matching them to replacement parts available.
